New Ad Highlights Senator Daines’ Record of Giving Tax Handouts to Billionaires

Watch: “Montanans don’t need special breaks. But we deserve a fair deal.”

Billings, Montana— Today, Working Montanans released a new six-figure ad to hold Senator Steve Daines accountable for his failure to support a fair tax code for hardworking Montanans. Instead, Daines has prioritized corporations and the top 1% when voting for tax policies rather than his constituents.

“Montanans work tirelessly for their families yet still don’t see a fair tax code that works for them. Instead of advocating for hard working families, Senator Daines has turned his back on his constituents and has helped billionaires from out of state who don’t need big tax handouts,” said Dayna Swanson, Senior Advisor for Working Montanans. “As a member of Senate leadership, Daines has the power to advocate for working Montanans. Until Senator Daines supports fair economic policies, we’ll be working hard to hold him accountable by talking with Montanans about what’s happening in Congress and bringing our community together to demand more from our junior Senator.”

Senator Daines previously voted for the GOP Tax Scam, which was signed into law in 2017. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act helped the richest 400 US families pay a tax rate of 23% while the bottom half of hardworking American households paid a rate of 24.2%, and it provided income tax cuts for the top 1% that amounted to $49,000 each year on average while the bottom 60% only averaged $500. The law also gave massive tax cuts to big corporations, including by reducing the federal corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%.

“From the Rockies to the Prairies.

Montanans everywhere just want a fair deal.

That’s been hard to get from Senator Steve Daines.

He voted for a tax scheme that gives huge tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires–

one percenters from out of state —

But does next to nothing for hard-working families here in Montana.

Montanans don’t need special breaks. But we deserve a fair deal.

Call Senator Daines.

Tell him to support a fair tax code for working Montanans.”
